Can my parents see my WhatsApp or Telegram texts using Google family link?

The Google Family Link app lets you set digital ground rules to help guide them as they learn, play, and explore online.

Parents can control the app activity on Google Play

  • Purchase & download approvals and content restrictions
  • Websites on Google Chrome
  • Filters on Google Search
  • Apps from Google Play
  • Location on Android devices

Some app activity, such as for music players and messaging apps that run in the background, will not be fully tracked with weekly or monthly activity reports.

Controls on Google Play

  • Manage your child's app permissions
  • Use Family Link to manage the apps available on your child's device
  • Block or limit access on your child's device
  • Control their ability to view an app
  • Limit content on a child's phone
To manage your child’s app permissions, your child must be using:
  • An Android device (running Android 6.0 or higher)
  • A Chromebook (running Chrome OS version 71 or higher)
Both parents and your child can manage app permissions. If you want, you can prevent your child from changing their app permissions.

Important: If you turn some permissions off, certain apps might not work correctly.

  • Choose permissions for a certain app
  • Change a permission across multiple apps
  • Prevent your child from changing their own app permissions
  • See your child's app activity
  • You can see how much time your child spent using apps on their Android devices or Chromebooks. Time is tracked when the app is open and shown on the screen, but not when the app is working in the background.

Open the Family Link app Family Link.
Select your child.
On the "App activity" card, tap Set up. After you turn on App Activity, you'll see your child's app activity in a few hours.

If you don't want to see how much time your child spends on Android apps, you can turn off the additional Web & App Activity setting.

Important: Turning off this setting might make other Google services less reliable.

Open the Family Link app Family Link.
Select your child.
On the "Settings" card, tap Manage settings and then More and then Manage Google Activity and then Go to activity controls.
Under "Web & App Activity", uncheck the box next to "Include Chrome browsing history and activity from websites and apps that use Google services."

Can my parents see my WhatsApp or Telegram texts using Google family link?

No, A Big No.  Your parents can see the time that how much time you have spent on an app.  But they can't see or you can say they can't read your messages in WhatsApp or Telegram.

They can read all of your mail.  Sent mails, received mails and if you make any purchase they can see that and also they can limit to access to any app.
